  1. Make ready 1 cup basmati rice
  2. Get 1 raw mango, medium size
  3. Prepare 2 tsp roasted chana dal

  7. Prepare 2 garlic cloves
  8. Get 1 tsp mustard seeds
  9. Get 1 tsp cumin seeds
  10. Take 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  11. Take Few Curry leaves
  12. Take to taste Salt
  13. Get 3 tbsp oil
  14. Prepare 1 raw mango wedge for garnishing

Raw mango rice, prepared in south Indian way, a perfect variety rice that can simply made in mango season. It would have been few years since I made Mango rice. Raw mango rice/ Mangai Sadam- Steamed rice stir fried with grated raw mango, fried peanuts,fresh herbs and spices. Raw mango rice or Mamidikaya Pulihora is a delicacy from South India.

Instructions to make Raw mango rice:
  1. Wash and soak rice for 30 minutes.
  2. Boil it in enough water with 1/2 tsp salt, till just done.
  3. Wash and grate mango using the large hole side. I have used 3/4th of a cup grated mango, it can be changed as per your liking.
  4. Heat up oil, fry peanuts, take out and keep aside. Add mustard and cumin seeds in the same oil. When it splutters add lentils. After 30 seconds add bits of green chilies and curry leaves.
  5. When curry leaves are crisp add asafoetida. Stir and add boiled rice.
  6. Add salt, you can add 1/4th tsp turmeric powder too, I have not used it. Now add grated mango. Mix well.
  7. Add salt, cook on slow for 5 minutes. Switch off the flame and cover it for a few minutes for mango to become soft and release it's juices.
  8. Garnish it with mango wedge and fried peanuts. Serve with any curry of your choice.
