Raw mango rice, prepared in south Indian way, a perfect variety rice that can simply made in mango season. It would have been few years since I made Mango rice. Raw mango rice/ Mangai Sadam- Steamed rice stir fried with grated raw mango, fried peanuts,fresh herbs and spices. Raw mango rice or Mamidikaya Pulihora is a delicacy from South India.
Steps to make Raw Mango Rice:
- First cook the rice, usually I add lil salt & 1 tsp oil while cooking rice. Once rice is cooked keep it aside to cool down. (Don't make very sticky rice)
- Nicely wash, Peel & Grate mango. Keep all ingredients handy now we need them one after the other quickly.
- In a pan add 2-3 spoons oil, fry peanut & keep aside.
- In same oil add urad daal & chana daal. Keep stirring & Let it change the colour to light brown. Keep flame on medium-low. Daal should not burn.
- Add mustard seeds, dry red chilli, and curry patta.
- Add turmeric and hing give a stir now add grated mango and salt. Mix and cook for 2 minutes or till mango become little soft.
- If you like coconut then add grated coconut also else skip this step.
- Now add fried peanut & mix.. Add 2 tsp of water and cooked rice. Mix it nicely. Cover the pan and cook for 2-3 minute. tangy mango rice is ready.
- You can serve with fryums, papad or coconut chutney. Enjoy your summer meal!!!!
